What is BaseGuard?
BaseGuard is a new
security tool that lets you lock your files, folders,
and drives with your personal password. Locking
folders, files, and drives is the best way to
guarantee that nobody accidentally or intentionally
gets access to your financial, health, private, and
confidential information. And because locking your
files, folders, or drives makes them invisible, they
cannot be deleted, damaged, or harmed in any other
way.
Ho do I install BaseGuard?
Simply follow the steps
of the installation wizard. Please have a look at the
readme file before installing. If you need help
during the installation process, please contact
support@smart502.com.
How do I uninstall BaseGuard?
Simply use the
"Add/Remove Programs" uninstallation wizard. During
uninstallation of BaseGuard, you will be asked to
provide your password in order to release the locks
on your folders.
Are my folders protected when closing BaseGuard?
Yes, the protection on
your files / folders remains even if the software is
closed.
Can BaseGuard protect folders on removable media?
Yes, using BaseGuard,
any media can be protected.
How do I remove protection from a folder?
To remove the
protection from a file/folder, click on the
"Configure" menu item from the BaseGuard tray icon.
In the configuration screen, select the file/folder
to remove, then hit "Delete".
What happens if the trial period has expired?
BaseGuard will refuse
to start. To
remove the software, use the "Add/Remove Programs"
uninstallation wizard.
BaseGuard not working properly on my Windows Vista
You have to disable “ User Account Control (UAC)”:
1. Open Control Panel.
2. In "User Account and Family Settings" click on the "Add or remove user account".
3. Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.
4. Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
5. In "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
6. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
7. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready. In order to re-enable UAC just select the above checkbox and reboot.
